A small studio that does the unglamorous work well.
The Boring Crew was founded in 2025 to be the agency we wished we could hire when we were on the other side of the table. Senior engineers. Direct relationships. Outcomes over seat-time.
Shubham Somani
Founder & Principal Engineer
Shubham spent a decade shipping production software across consumer apps, marketplaces, fintech, and gaming. He led engineering teams, ran code reviews, set engineering standards, and shipped the apps you can read about in the work section.
He started The Boring Crew because most agency engagements he saw — from the inside — were structurally set up to fail. This is the studio he wanted to build instead.

Founded The Boring Crew
What we hold ourselves to.
-
Boring is the discipline
We pick the option that compounds the least debt — even when a flashier choice would feel better in the moment.
-
Senior, attached, accountable
Every engagement starts and stays with a senior engineer. No invisible rotations to junior teams after the kickoff.
-
Outcome over seat-time
We make more money when our clients ship — not when we bill more hours. The incentives are set up to point the same direction as yours.
-
Direct, written-first
PRs, decisions, and reviews live in writing. Meetings are for the things that genuinely need synchronous time.
-
Honest about trade-offs
We'll tell you what we'd do differently with hindsight. If a rewrite isn't in your interest, we'll say so — even when a rewrite is profitable for us.
-
Keep the lights on
Reliability, observability, runbooks, and backups are part of the deliverable. Not phase two.
The thinking behind the work.
We write down how we make decisions — what "boring" means in practice, why we pick the stacks we pick, and how we run engagements. It's the clearest way to show how we'd work with you.
- engineering-culture
What "boring" engineering actually means
Boring is not slow, simple, or unambitious. Boring is the dial we turn up when reliability matters more than novelty — which is most of the time.

Staff augmentation done right: five anti-patterns to avoid
Staff aug fails for predictable reasons. Here are the five most common, and what to do instead — from someone who has seen both sides of the engagement.

Why we reach for Postgres first (and second)
Most products do not need a new database. They need someone who knows Postgres well enough to stop reaching for new ones. Here is our default, and the few times we break it.
